July 8, 2010

Jhargram/Baripada/ Ranchi/Patna. Life was hit in the Maoist-dominated belt across West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa with the extremist-sponsored 48-hour bandh beginning today, while two people were nabbed from Orissa in connection with the gyaneswari Express sabotage.

A complete shutdown was reported in the entire Junglemahal across Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore districts in West Bengal, while a partial response was observed in the neighbouring states.

The shutdown was being organised by Maoists to protest not only the recent hike in petroleum prices but also the killing of their leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad by security forces in Andhra Pradesh on July 1, it was learnt.
